Anyone else do graveyard shifts for their work? I have to leave for one like right now But if you do I am interested in hearing of what experiences you have with them

I worked graveshift at a laundromat for a year, it was the best job I ever had despite that I only worked 2-3 nights a week I would be there from 10pm-6am, and the work (basic cleaning and a little customer help) could be finished in about 3 hours usually. So for 5 hours I would just sit there on my laptop freaking around/doing homework/playing HR or some spit. Sometimes my friends would come by and we'd just sit and talk for a while. other times since I worked saturdays there'd be parties, and I'd just leave work for around 2-3 hours. Nobody ever noticed. Also, I came in high as freak one time and sat down to watch the 5 channel t.v. they installed to help relieve customer boredom, and there was this program about ostritches on and I couldn't stop laughing at the ostritches. Think I scared some of the customers. Funny thing is I got fired for the most competent thing I ever did while working there though. There was a leak in the bathroom roof that during rains would drip onto the electrical junction box, a fire hazard, so I left a note for management to fix it. Also, I noticed there was no fire extinguisher (IN A MOTHERfreakING LAUNDROMAT WITH GAS POWERED FIRE PRODUCING DRYERS) so I mentioned that in the note also. Next day, canned. Apparantly the owner was hoping the place would burn down for insurance one day.

i always prefer the graveyard shift. quite, peaceful, less stupid humans around to get my blood preasure up. does have it,s moments thou.. working graveyard at a gas station, 13 years ago. once had a car jacking in the parking lot. poor dude was beat half to death. then their was the two armed robberies while i was there. fun for all. best was the time the zone manager came in, drunk out of his mind, and tried to pick my wife up. aaaand that,s how i lost that job. he lost a few teeth, his job, and his wife, so i came out better, i think. now, i work the second shift, 2-10( yep, go my job back, and they paid me my two weeks missed to keep me from suing their asses) It's a pretty decent shift. most the bosses leave at 6, and theirs no chance of corperate bigwigs coming in after 5, so less crap.

i always prefer the graveyard shift. quiet, peaceful, less stupid humans around... seconded. however, it isn't for everyone... some just can't adjust to the hours; whilst for others, it just comes natural (such as myself). i'm currently working 3rd shift at a grocery store (Krogers, for the curious bunch) and I've worked third shift for about ten years now (off and on, during holiday breaks from college and what-not). I must say though, the world isn't meant for third-shifters. On our nights off, what is there to do? Go to a bar until 2 or 2:30? then what? Dennys or White Castle.... Basically, on nights off you either: read a book, watch DVDs, channel surf, internet surf (play SW!). all good stuffs, but it does get repetitive/boring after awhile. I asume this to be because of the lack of human interaction. Also, sometimes it seems very hard to try to get errands/chores done once you get outta work (depending on the time certain places open (ie. banks). I think the worst is trying to adjust your sleep schedule to attend family gatherings and/or to see friends (whether its a planned function or a random get-together). Often, I've gone to work with "broken" sleep (i.e. three hours here, two hours there). Although everyone is different, "broken sleep" is rough for me. I need a good 6-8 hours staight.

I worked graveyard shift for a call center. Yes, I was one of the "operators standing by NOW!". It confirmed by belief that the world is full of stupid people. I hated it beyoind belief, and got out as soon as I could get a day job.

i think the craziest things happened and in part because of each other at this porn shop i used to work at overnight from around ten p.m to seven a.m
it as a small little spitshack of a porn shop complete with arcade and theatre rooms and way overpriced merchandise.
anyway this one night some punk ass kid comes barging through the door with an ak-47 and robs us on my shift. gets away with about a hundred bucks and my wallet which was empty.
anyways because of this kid, we ended up having to change our security and handling of big drops etc.
so one night, a few weeks later, this dude comes in and spends close to a thousand bucks in cash on porn, sextoys and lube~note. no condoms~ apparently his uncle died and left him this cash in his will....anwyays, i call up my boss ~this is aorund four in the morning and tell him about ti and he immediately hauls ass over to the shop and goes about taking the money to his place to drop in the morning.
(because it was decided that since this kid had a record of robbing us it was best to take large drops like that to his house rather than leave them in the store)
in his excitement however, he ends up spilling a 20 oz bottle of mountain dew into the register, permanently freaking the computer on it.
royal freaking mess.
so we had to go to the old stone age method of using one of those punch calculators with the ticker tapes to ring up purchases.
i eventually got written up and fired from there for refusing to clean the arcade without proper sanitary equipment. it's required that porn shops inthis state provide employees with latex gloves if they have an arcade or theatre due to us having to clean up er....bodily fluids.
