caught this as a topic on the webcomic's forum and thought it was worth bringing up on here as well.

anyways, there is a link apparently that shows panel by panel comparisons of nick simmons' comic "incarnate" and the super popular manga BLEACH.

here is that link:
http://community.livejournal.com/bleachness/446299.html

after reading the review of his book, it even sounds a bit like a ripoff of bleach but that it's been manipulated just enough that if he were sued by shonen jump or whoever holds the title out here for that manga~i dont read the manga but am aware of it's plot~ that he could get away with it although it's a pretty hard argument to imagine anyone under the age of 40 to not have heard about bleach.

personally, i think the guy's got some talent, although it's hard to really tell where his talent starts and stops on finished pieces since he isn't the one who inked or colored the pages and there is some pretty sketchy panels there that look like modified traces off of bleach panels.

I usually don't read a title if they call themselves "an american manga" anyway but anywyas, just putting it out there.

oh and this just in, apparently the company doing incarnat ehas put the comic on hold now to investigat einto these allegations.

haven't heard anything else about this so it's safe to assume this is gonna simply get swept under the rug by one of nick's daddy's big ole KISS checks.

the bleach part i could care less about what bugs me is how he went as far as to steal from people on deviant art as well probably under the assumption that noone would recognise the lifts ~one even being a direct ripoff of a painting: http://chaosvoid.deviantart.com/art/S-t-a-l-k-e-r-79033559

And i honestly am not for sure if they can sue him or not under............I mean, both artists who have had their art ripped off by nicky use creative commons licenses but dunno if that'll hold up in court or not since they both have them placed under their screen name rather than real name.

to make matters even mroe annoying, it turns out someone on smackjeeves ~the current free host site of the hellrising chronicles comic~ was actually ripping off another artists comic altogether and reposting said piece on their, unaware that the actual artist of the comic had an acconut on smackjeeves and was taking full credit for the work.

i personally can't stand art/idea thieves whatsoever. And I've had to deal with both them over the years~and i'm not even a professional artist so you can just imagine how frustrating that is being an unknown and having some asshole graphic designer take something you drew and then throw their name on it or having someone come to you for ideas for their videogame and as soon as you get done drawing some sketches up, they immediately begin to act like a complete dick to you without so much as even a "thanks for helping out" or 'we'll give you acknowledgement for your contribution"

personally, i think if he gets off with this, it's gonna send a message that's basicly,
"you can get away with ripping people off as long as you're rich and either famous or related to or know someone famous."

ofcourse it would'nt be the first time this crap has happend in the comic book industry....anyone ever read about how dc comics managed to obtain the rights to captain marvel?

well, comparing the work shown in the comic and the work he provides on his deviantart account (albeit it's even questionable it's actually his da account), that wouldnt be much of a surprise.

not to mention on the wiki about his comic, he mentioned that he tried to get published through idw  back in 2007 but they turned him down cus of the lack of professionalism in his work and he claims he hasn't taken any training to better his work either except for 'studying" other comic book artist's approaches to get his style down which is not that simple a thing to do really.....

i'm no pro by any means but from what i've learned through doing the webcomics and working at a comic shop, not to mention actually ASKING professional artists, there IS alot more to drawing a comic book than simply drawing some cool looking dude in a trench coat.

and just looking at a comic page is not gonna teach you how to do a comic either i.m.o

and with manga, you've got this little thing called "toning" as well. granted, computers have pretty much made alot fo thigns simpler to handle in comics....shading, toning, lettering spit, even drawing if you have a tablet, but unless you just literally have no life whatsoever, you aint gonna improve your skills that quickly in that short an amount of time.

and yeah, gloom, he really does come across as a spoiled little rich kid with this whole thing from what i've read thus far~again referencing his won wiwki for the comic. i mean, his daddy has been the driving force behind this comic from day one and i'm pretty sure his daddy's gonna figure out a way to make his go away as fast as he can.
